Finally! The littlest man-child has finally lost his first tooth! He’s a month away from being 7 and was getting a bit impatient, we all were. Normally, we would let nature take it’s course and not place him on any kind of timetable, but he did have his perms coming in behind his babies and we were getting a little bit worried. We gently worked on him twice a day for a couple of weeks and I figured that, come next week, I would be making a dentist appointment. He finally lost it at school today and was so excited! When you lose a tooth, you get sent to the nurse who places the tooth in a little, plastic, tooth-shaped container to hang around his neck until he gets home. That’s a new one for me as my oldest never lost a tooth at school. Now the tooth is under his pillow, patiently waiting to be exchanged for the almighty dollar!
I’ve found me a new project and should be finishing it up tonight. Actually, it was a request from the middle man-child. This is my first toy project and is proving to be an….adventure. This is Sack Boy from PS3s Little Big Planet.
I might break out the wheel tomorrow. She’s been neglected for too long and I am anxious to get back to learning. I don’t have the steadiest hands, but it sure is relaxing and allows you to drift. It’s a good thing when you have a lot of stress but need to do something productive or you feel lazy.
The upgrades to the blog are going well and I’m really loving the new dashboard. It’s taking a little getting used to but it’s come a long way towards being user friendly. Remember when computers were for smart people? External modems, public BBS’s and command prompts? Now, the 86 year old grandma is emailing and editing pictures on her PC. That’s what it’s like with the new dashboard. I’m having some difficulties with the categories and I need to make my sidebar dynamic to take advantage of the widgets, apparently. As soon as I get that all figured out, I’ll be posting some neat content.
This is me, my mom and my oldest about 13 years ago. I miss her.
All in all Louisa is turning out really well. This will only be the second large piece I have finished but the other one doesn’t count. Why? Because it turned out pretty crappy. The corset and ruffle was great but the body sucked big, fat, hairy Griffin butt.
It was definitely a learning experience. Especially when I ripped it apart and turned it into a pretty little ball of fluff. Yeah. Anyhoo, I’ve come a long way in skill since that first attempt and I am so far very proud of this one and hope to have it finished tomorrow. Headless Helen is modeling today and she is very happy to come out of the closet. Literally speaking of course, as her sexuality is still in question. She’s wearing Louisa’s companion cami and wanted a skirt to cover her legs as they are a bit scrawny. I would love to find her a sister of the vintage variety but I haven’t come across one yet that she would approve of.
Once upon a time I started a really nifty peasant blouse. As with all unions, miscommunication ensued and it was frogged. About a month later I was feeling pretty spry, all full of piss and vinegar, and tried it again. It bears mentioning that I speak fluent English while the Bane of My Existence speaks Pig Latin. Frogged again. Several months later, and I do mean 6 or 7, I gave it another go. I decided to go with darker colors and to take my time, planning for a Fall release. Sophie decided that I couldn’t do any worse if she was in my lap. She was right. I swear she was croaking. Maybe I will try it again. In another life. Or maybe not.
I have to say that for living in the backwoods we sure do have an excellent yarn shop! Of course, I never go in looking for something. I like to let the projects….’call to me.’ Yeah, that’s it. Problem is that I’m a total yarn whore and this shop is like soft, squishy, lovable porn. Before I left San Diego I picked up a bunch of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool because it was being discontinued and I absolutely love it! It is a blend of 65% wool and 35% silk. It’s light, airy and the silk gives it just enough shine to make the color pop without being glittery. Luckily our local store still had some by the time we made it out here and I picked up even more. Isn’t it lovely? I also have it in a rich chocolate, rust and lush forest green.
This is Berroco’s Comfort Chunky which is a 50% nylon and 50% super fine acrylic blend. Don’t let that scare you away, this is a beautiful, smooth yarn with a very nice weave. It’s also a tad bit brighter than the picture shows. I’m using it to make the ‘Louisa’ lace tunic by Kristeen Griffin-Grimes in her book ‘French Girl knits.’
Using the elsebeth’s Silky Wool in other colors, I currently have Interweave Knit’s Banded Peasant Blouse on the needles. I don’t have a picture of the progress but I’m loving the way it’s turning out! I think it’s going to be more of a fall piece, though, because the pattern is knitting a bit more dense than I had hoped.
This is a great idea and I already had all of the ingredients hanging around the house. I made a smaller memo board section because, while useful, I preferred to use the majority of the space for containers and pouches. I also used a brighter color combination more suited to my space. You can find various instructions for different shaped boxes and pouches on the ‘net for visual variety. Since i wanted this to hang on the wall and be sturdier, I used two Hercules Hooks and it holds beautifully! I highly recommend giving it a try.
I can’t believe it. Really. I’m knitting! I’ve tried several times over the last few years and have never been successful. This time I’ve got it! Of course, this time I have more than just a few moments to try and figure it out. But I’ve finally done it. I’m sitting in the recliner at night with a blanket around my shoulders like a grandma and knitting.
Of course I won’t tell you how many times I had to rip out 25 rows of stitches because my tension sucked but I’ve got it now. I did end up having to go and buy a set of circular needles because my stitches wouldn’t fit on the standard ones.
I’m making a common, triangular shaw in a chocolate brown chenille. Actually, I’ve only had to learn to cast on, the knit stitch and a yarn over increase but still, I’m thrilled! It’s turning out great and it’s going to be really warm when I’m done.
