While I was perusing Google’s many results for budgets, I came across a really awesome site that I wish I had found sooner. I have found many great ideas and when I find one that works for me, I will definitely pass the link along. As I will do now.

I found a GREAT, awesome and wonderful recipe for Bread Machine Pitas at her site. I am extremely picky about my bread, which is why I usually buy it from the store. I have tried many different recipes but none have really stuck. I like to have soft bread, without the crusty top. I like a certain texture and flavor that I have been unable to reproduce at home, although my efforts have been renewed.

I love pita bread. Love it for sandwiches, tacos, goulash, etc. I have tried to make them but they never became the pockets they were supposed to. This recipe worked! I love that I can mix, knead and rise in the bread machine and I only have to divide, rise and roll out. I substituted half of the whole wheat flour for unbleached, all purpose because I had more of that and the recipe makes 8 pitas on the 2lb setting on my machine. I also cooked them for 7 minutes instead of the recommended 5.

Most of my pitas blossomed up into little round balloons in the oven but a couple of them didn’t so I expected them to not have the pocket. Sure enough, they did! And they tasted delicious.
