I know I’m going to add to this as I think of more so bear with me as this post is a work in progress. Actually, scratch that. It’s going to be a whole page on another part of my site. Yep, that’s how important it is.
For now, what makes a witch a witch? Okay, you probably have that figured out by now. But what makes one ‘advanced?’ Is it the outdated notion that one must be a High Priest/ess? Is it the adoration of many disciples or followers? Is it the experience of leading a coven or other group? Is it spending a certain amount of ‘time in rank’ or having a piece of paper telling one and all that you are ‘qualified?’ Want my opinion? Well, you’re going to get it anyway because that is why you’re here. Right? :-)

Being advanced is not knowing the elements inside and out. It is not knowing which way to walk in circle. It is not knowing the myths of every God and Goddess ever thought of. It is not knowing divination, spellwork, herbs, crystals and minerals. It is not all of the knowledge contained in the various ‘how-to’ books littering the shelves in your local bookstore.

Being advanced is a state of mind. It is knowing all of the above but, more importantly, applying that knowledge with wisdom. It is not only standing between the worlds in ritual but in your daily life. It is the ability to lead and share your knowledge and wisdom from within the shadows. It is not needing to prove yourself and argue about the correct use of a black candle or how our way is the one true way.

Oh, the things I could say. Oh, the time I would need! Soon….

An experienced witch understands that there is no such thing as an ‘advanced witch’. An experienced witch knows that there is much to be learned - even from the inexperienced. An experienced witch knows that their experience and the experience in others shows through their actions and words and doesnt need to be announced. ‘To be silent’ has meanings on lots of levels. IMO, that also means to keep your mouth shut when there is an opportunity to brag :)

We tease amongst ourselves because our teacher broke up the material into ‘begginer’, ‘intermediate’ and ‘advanced’. The advanced students are qualified to steal the lunch money of the beginner students. One of our ’siblings’ missed the class when we went to the advanced stuff and so we teased her mercilessly about us being ‘advanced’ and she was ONLY ‘intermediate’.

Maybe we could start an elite club called Advanced Witches of America and say that only members of that organization are TRUELY advanced witches.

You are having php difficulty… ”
Warning: main() [function.main]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Temporary failure in name resolution in /homepages/22/d98475973/htdocs/onbeingme/blog/wp-content/themes/onbeingme/head”

At any rate, I saw a book in the shop this weekend called ‘Advanced Witchcraft’ and I thought of this post :)

I’m not sure what browser you’re using, but it seems to be a problem unique to FireFox. I’ve explored a little with other browsers and the only one where I’m getting this stuff with is FireFox. Have no idea what’s going on with that but I’m still trying to work on it. :-)

You know, I looked through that book several times while I was working. It really bummed me out to see that there was nothing new in there. Just some larger words. LOL

Hah! Maybe that’s the secret of the 9th degree… really big words!

That’s an actual php-on-the-server failure message… not browser related. It’s gone now though. :)
